Highland Meadow Homes .. now open.

Well.. you guessed it. This is what I have been so busy with lately. The two sims are finially set-up and open to the public. We have more houses comig out soon for customers with smaller lots. A smaller home will definately not have less quality. We plan to lavish as much detail on the newer homes as we have on these first ones.

The business is located at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Highland%20Meadow%202/36/210/30.

The landscaping is very close to finished with the special help of Lilith Heart. She came through with a few special itmes I needed to get the look i wanted. Stop by and enjoy the sims. Even if you are not in the mood for house buying .. there are some areas that make for great photography.

ALMOST TIME TO OPEN !!!!

After months and months of preparation... it is almost time for Highland Meadow Homes to open.

I thought i would throw a few teaser images of what we have been up to. These photos are from the "Montana" home.

I think my favourite is still the "Berwick" model. It is a Victorian with as much historical accuracy as was feasible. To include, but not limited to, a coal room, pantry, and separate indoor servant stairs. The icebox for this house took just over 150 layers in photoshop to create.

The homes we are making come with a kitchen and bathroom, but be warned... We did not set up the furnishings in those two areas with things like opening door to the oven. More detailed and interactive furnishings will be located a shop specifically for furnishings. We chose to use prims for more frequently used items like curtains that will open and close individually, by room, or for the whole house. Lighting is also included in the builds. Wall lights and hanging lights are place throughout the houses. The windows and railing are LOD stable sculpties rather than using alphas. With the exception of the blinds used in a couple models and the custom made antique glass texture complete with a few of the standard imperfections you would find in blown glass.

The textures have all been created, with very few exceptions, specifically for these builds. Everything from kitchen cabinets to curtain valances... wallpapers and antique tin ceilings.

My SL/RL Partner Elliott Eldrich did an outstanding job building the structures and i did design and texture creation. We will be opening with 12 models of homes, but more houses are already in the process.. such as what may become another favourite of mine... a Southern Plantation House.

So now you may see why i have had such little time to shop and blog. I am very much looking forward to using my portion of the profits to go on many future shopping sprees. (I reinvest in SL Merchants by keeping all my lindens in the game)

Much love and hugs, May health and happiness be your constant companion.

Kate

More Shopping Joy!!

I found a shirt i really liked... so of course i had to build an outfit around it. The shirt was from a.C. Store ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/Glox%20City/83/93/23 ) and if you ladies have not heard of it, well that is because it's primarily a guy's shop. I often look for gems in the men's shops as long as they look like they will mod to fit ... why not. Anyhow back to the info.. The cargo pants and necklace are from :sey. The earrings are (ok mod) double hoops from Action. The skin is LAQ. The hair is from LaLa Moon. The the glasses are from Solar. The socks are from shiny things. Last, but certainly not least, the shoes are from our brilliant friends at Urban Bomb Unit. UBU Drunks have so many great features you can use to colour/ size, and pretty much anything else you could want in a mod hud and re-size script.

p.s. if you click the image you can see a bigger version.

I have fallen in love with a new store

I needed something to jazz up a simple outfit I had planned to wear today.

Donna Flora ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/Garman/208/93/102) came to my rescue with this very pretty and well detailed necklace. If you have not visited this shop.. GO... NOW.. ;p I love the quality of the jewelry and clothes there.

The outfit is just bits from the sey outfit called :sey luire furil [black]. The Hair is from Bettie Page and the skin is from LAQ.

Not Just for Men!

When i spotted the new open shirts for men at Zaara, I couldn't resist asking Zaara Kohime if they came as OK Mod. Well they do!!! Iwas so excited and rushed to her mainstore to buy a fat pack of them. They easily changed to fit my avatar's shape, and they are totally yummy!!!

If you buy any shirt for summer.. make it this one! I am wearing it with one of the new bikini sets from artilleri (another MUST HAVE for summer)

I have been so busy texturing/building for the new business opening in September. I have to admit it is well worth the long hours it is taking to make really lovely detailed textures for these houses. I am very excited about how they are turning out thus far. I must say that the Victorian model is still my favourite so far... well worth the time it took to make custom walls and tin ceilings. I may be driving my partner a bit nuts with the details I am insisting on having for these houses.. (like a set of servant's stairs, pantry, coal room, and so many other features in the Victorian, that I think bring RL to SL) I will post a few preview pictures here as it gets closer to opening.

Elliott and I have decided to give a few weeks, free of charge, on the residential islands in one of the new homes to a few bloggers/magazine staff. I can think of no better way to really know how good a house is unless you spend time in one. Lots of houses look really good in the pictures... but after a week you begin to notice small things .. like gaps in walls... shadows on floors that look kinda silly when you add furniture to the room.. other little things like that. We made the decision to make this new line of homes without alphas. Thus far only one model has alphas .. but it couldn't be helped. I hate it when your hair or plants disappear when you stand in front of a wall made of alphas. That's why we are going out of our way to avoid using them. Well enough about that! Back to the really important things- shopping !! ;p

Goodbye Gossip Girls

Today, June 30th, the Warner Brother Sims for the Gossip Girls Project is closing. If you have not gone there, this is your last chance. While I was on the East Coast, and in between illness, I was lucky enough to teach for a very short time there. I had not been back there in over a year. I don't know how much it changed in the time I was gone (for the better or the worse), but I do recall having fun teaching people new to SL (they arrived in a separate portal which skipped orientation island). I almost miss playing avatar pinball in the welcoming areas, with all the folks learning how to move in SL. There are a few shops who have little stands near a festival setup on one of the 4 sims (a few have freebies for the goodbye).

So.... Goodbye Gossip Girls... thanks for the memories and the friends i found there.

P.S. While i helped teach/mentor noobs in the GG sims.. I was never asked not to use thier native languages while talking in open chat, in fact the "Mods" were thrilled i knew so many. I will wager something happened that made them change that. As with many other things sometimes a few dirtbags ruin it for everyone.
